For my Mid-term performance review . I took 3 days to prepare the write-up going down the memory lanes, searching through old mails; and my boss allocated only 10 min time to look at the performance, review and take a decision. I thought what the heck, is my 3 days effort equivalent to only 10 min of my boss?
This thought forced me to think more about this puzzle and the result is this post…
The Puzzle about Time…
Lets take another, a more relevant and common scenario.
A typical movie production takes around 6-7 months, around 200-300 peoples strong Film Crew and millions of rupees for a 2.5 hours long movie.
If you do a rough math, considering 6 months as the total time of file production and 300 people working for 8 hours shift for 5 days a week, the total time it takes to make a 2.5 hours long movie is
Does this puzzle you? Your effort of months together is only worth an hour of the audience? That too if they want to see.
There are many Talk Shows and Speaker events where you think of leaving the hall within the first 5 minutes of the beginning. Don’t you think the audience should have some sympathy for the speaker, for the efforts he/she and his team has put in to get things up and running for you.
That’s where Law of Conservation of Time comes into picture.
The Law of Conversation of Time (LCT)
The Law of Conservation of Time says that the Time you spend on preparing and pitching to audience is conserved in the form of business. It could either be gain of Business or lose of Business.
The Time spent transforms into money based on the kind of tuning you create with the Customer…its similar to Law of conservation of energy…time is neither created not destroyed. It translates into success or failure based on the efficiency of the medium used for conversion.
For me, Steve Jobs has been the pioneer of understanding and utilizing the Law of Conservation of Time.
People would look forward to Steve Jobs talk show and what he has to present. They would go mad to purchase the products showcased in his talk shows. Its mesmerizing. I have heard a few of his presentation and he is just awesome..

Time to Money
Coming back to our Law of Conversation of Time and connecting it with Steve Jobs, its no rocket science to fact out that the medium of translation, the process through which Time gets conserved into Business is you and your pitch. So if the time spent in preparation doesn’t result into a revenue, one of the key aspect to be re-checked, re-prepared and repeated is the medium i.e You.
