The subject of this post was bored in my mind in the first session of my MBA program. The speaker, I don't remember the name, was a visiting speaker for IIMs and IISc. She drew the analogy of how business is setup and how it runs with that of the bicycle wheel. I applied it to understand the course of my life and I came to a conclusion that what we do and what we achieve in life is also similar to motion of a wheel.I tattooed it as "Intertia of Life".
The wheel phenomenon goes like this, if you want to rotate the wheel, initially you have to put in more effort. But once the wheel gets into motion, relatively less effort is required. The wheel will continue its motion of Rotation even after you have stop pedaling it. This phenomenon of motion of wheel is governed by the Law of Inertia. In brief, this law talks about resistance of an object to a change in velocity.
Coming back to the point, To achieve our personal goals, and the goal could be anything, we must set the wheel in motion and for sure it will need quite some sweating. But once, life has joined and started rolling, the advancement happens. We start moving close to the goal or objective. It is at this stage, the problem creeps in, the advancement makes us a bit lethargic and so the effort is reduced. Not a problem, because we have been putting in lot of blood and sweat and sure we need to celebrate our success or progress and take a break,( even the fastest and most powerful of the cars need Pit stop to complete the race), so that we are charged in again. But the stage is quite more dicey, because of our past effort, we are still progressing though we are not putting in considerable effort and it will tempt many of us to stop rolling in. This is just suicidal. we need constant focus on the goal and the awareness about length of track covered. This is why I feel we have millions of people doing good enough to live and survive and very few doing exceptionally well. We all start from the same point but depending upon "How hard" and "How long" we have pedaled ,determines where we end up. As they say, "Its never too late" and "Rather be late than never", I believe, we should consider any setback of life as a break to recharge ourselves and start pedaling again before the motion ceases completely.
