Traffic has become an integral part of everybody of us very much like the Sun, the day and night. New flyovers are proposed and inaugurated almost every month. Still the traffic vows do not seem to be reducing any significantly. I wonder if only constructing new flyovers, making some roads one way, adding traffic signal at every junction will reduce the issue. I feel the basic issue is the number of vehicles and people on the road at any given point of time. Especially in city like Mumbai, its always more than the maximum capacity of the road or the flyover. So apart of from improving infrastructure, we need to somehow bring these number of people on road down. I am posting here some of the tricks which I feel might reduce number of people or vehicle on road.
What Corporates can do?
One of the major chunk of traffic during peak hours is the office going people. If corporate houses themselves or by Government enforcement wherever feasible ask people to come to office at a regular interval instead of the single time, we will certainly have less vehicles on the roads. To make it even more simple, instead of everybody of us reaching office at 9am, we get time slots and then some reach at 8am, some at 9am and so on. So instead of everybody leaving their home at the same time, people are out on different times and thus effective number of people and vehicles on road is reduced.
What Authorities can do?
The other thing I have observed is that many of us travel by Auto Rickshaw(Rick) and most of the time, we are alone. So its like for 100 people staying in locality A, there are 100 Ricks on the road. If the rick could be shared, considering the Rick capacity of people, we would have only 33.33=34 ricks on the road. Its being followed at many places but mostly its ungoverned and unorganized such that instead of 3 at times 5-6 people are sitting the rick. And may be that's the reason many of us avoid sharing. But if government can somehow have a tieup with Rick union and implement this in an organized way, I feel we can again reduce the number of Vehicles on the road. This will also share the load of very overloaded Public transport system which by no means can match the kind of growth in the number of people migrating to cities and rising number of vehicles.

in my opinion, if we people really want to reduce traffic in cities then we should encourage people to use public transport. like singapore,everybody uses public transportation..By the usage of public transportation, Singapore has no traffic problem. If people use public transportation then not only will they reduce the traffic but also save money bcz Today fuel prices are going up day by day.so its saves money also...
