Have you made to shout "WOW"

One thing that has always and still amuses me is the income disparity across the globe.

A study by the World Institute for Development Economics Research at United Nations University reports that the richest 1% of adults alone owned 40% of global assets in the year 2000, and that the richest 10% of adults accounted for 85% of the world total

I was more stunned by people who are paid Himalayan salaries, who are in the richest 10% bracket. What special does these group of people do? What special skills does these people possess? that they can command such huge pays, such hefty bank balances.

Of course, there are unethical and illegal ways of making money. But I am talking absolutely and only about the legal and socially acceptable ways.

Firstly I thought, pay cheque is directly proportional to talent. But realized very soon that it’s a partial truth. There are many people more talented than some of the most successful people but still their comparative compensation is peanuts.  Bollywood is a fine example for this.
Then I thought, money is all about being an experienced tech-savvy. Its all about how long you have been working and how sound you are technically.  This understanding of mine also came down crashing. I  realized this is one more partial truth.  You could possess these qualities if you are being paid good but then its not necessary that if you have this qualities, you will be paid huge.

So what is that really matters? What is it with which ones compensation can be co-related?

After a lot of head scratching and observing the characteristics, job-profiles, responsibilities I realized
apart from the talent, skills, technical know-how, work experience  what matters more is by using your these virtues  How many lives you touch. How many lives are being made cheerful. The cheering could be because of anything right from a device like Iphone to something like Coke, right from the satallites which make communication possible to simple and smart thing like Sticky Notes. In short, the impact need not be direct. Infact in most of the cases, its indirect. It’s the result of the action you have taken using your sklils, work experience, talent and all such virtues.

To support my notion, lets talk about Bill Gates. He is one of the worlds richest person because his company bought into market something (Windows OS) which changed the way people interact with computers. Life is impossible without computers these days.

Another example is Steve Jobs (CEO Apple computers). His products make people feel ecstatic. I don’t have an iPhone but couple of my friends do have and its an awesome device. The first time I used it, I could not stop myself from shouting "WoW".

For that matter, take any case and on putting a bit of brain, you will realize that at the grass root level what matters is how many people you have made to shout "WOW"
